Using Google Trends to Help You Invest Your Money?

Google trends is a tool that can be very helpful.  Many website owners and Americans in general use this site to do research on everything from buying a house to finding out who will win American Idol.  By simply sitting down and typing in some keywords on Google Trends you are likely to find yourself addicted for quite some time.  With that being the case is there a way to use Google Trends to help you invest your money?

By looking at popular trends when it comes to products or ideas you might be ahead of the crowd when it comes to a good investment.  You may also realize that it is time to get out of an investment by noticing the amount of searches drastically shrinking.  A good example of this is Crocs the shoe company.  By looking at the Google Trends chart for Crocs you can see a huge spike in the middle of 2007.  After this spike the interest in Crocs, through Google searches, never returned.  You would have obviously sold your shares when you saw this dip.

This is not a tried and true method and it is very important to consult your own financial advisor when it comes to investment ideas, but it is definitely a way to think outside the box when it comes to investing.  Please consider that you would only want to research products that you would Google search and not something like Coca-Cola; there is no real reason to search Coca-Cola even if you bought the product every day.

Over the next few weeks it will likely be the case that many search for the Ohio State vs Purdue Radio Broadcast Live Online.  Remember that as we get much closer to the 2012 NCAA tournament the better teams will have to put their best foot forward and prove that they deserve a #1 seed.
