Big 12 Will Remain Intact as the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners Turn Down an Invitation to the Pac 10

After many rumors and reports swirling over the last week is the case at the Big 12 will remain intact as the Texas Longhorns in Oklahoma Sooners turned down the invitation to go to the Pac-10. Over the last 24 hours there were rumors saying that it was imminent that the Pac-10 would expand the 16 teams and there were also rumors stating that the Big 12 would remain intact.

Ultimately, Texas had the ultimate say in the big 12 remaining as a BCS conference as they decided to push for the remaining schools to stay where they currently are. This will allow Texas to create the Texas Longhorns TV network which could end up producing millions of dollars for the University.

It is also the case that the Big 12 conference will be centered around the state of Texas. If these teams that went to the Pac-10 then there would have been many long road trips for Pac-10 teams such as the trip from Austin, Texas to Pullman, Washington. When thinking about the student athlete and students themselves this would not have been a trip that was very easy.

It now seems to be the case that the Pac-10 will look to add one more team so they can be a 12 team conference which in turn will allow them to have a college football championship game. After adding the Colorado buffaloes there is a very good possibility that the Utah Utes could be the 12 team for the Pac-10.

Over the next several weeks we will begin to better understand just how these conference realignments will work out. It looks as if the Big 12 will drop down to 11 teams in 2011 and will drop down to 10 teams in 2012. If they hope to keep the championship game they will have to add teams each of these years so they will have 12 teams total in the conference.
