The heavyweight title fight that took place last night had a result that rocked the MMA world. When it comes to mixed martial arts and heavyweight fighters the first name that always comes up is Fedor Emelianenko. For much of the last decade Fedor was undefeated and truly unchallenged.
Many heavyweight fighters from PRIDE moved over to UFC in 2007 which caused some to believe that Fedor was not fighting the top talent. Fabricio Werdum who defeated Fedor on Saturday Night was actually 2-2 in the UFC before moving over after not receiving fight offers.
With a loss to a 2-2 UFC heavyweight many analysts now wonder how the great Fedor would fit in to the UFC heavyweight class. At the present time Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin hold a split heavyweight title in the UFC and will fight for the unanimous belt next Saturday, July 3rd.
The winner of this fight will likely be tauted as the best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world after the Fedor loss on Saturday night. With Dana White continuing to struggle when it comes to contract negotiations with Fedor it may be a moot point if the heavyweights continue to perform well in the UFC.
