Ladainian Tomlinson holds almost every rushing record for the San Diego Chargers but they decided to let him go after last season. Tomlinson is currently second when it comes to all time rushing touchdowns behind Emmitt Smith. He currently holds the record for the most touchdowns in a season.
Even with all these accolades the San Diego Chargers felt it was time to part ways with Tomlinson. After a few seasons of injuries the Chargers felt that they needed a younger running back that could handle the entire season. Over the last three years Tomlinson has slowly seen his numbers drop.
In the offseason the New York Jets decided to take a chance on Tomlinson. Although he will likely not be the featured back he could provide a great burst in key situations for the Jets. He will likely come in on third down situations and will be a great receiving option out of the backfield.
The Chargers have let go of many stars in the last decade including Rodney Harrison, Junior Seau and Drew Brees. All of these players went on to continue to have great careers for other teams and Tomlinson is hoping the same for his current situation with the New York Jets.
