Tier 5 Unemployment Benefits Extension News and Updates for 99ers in August 2010 – Senate Takes Recess
UPDATE: We received some of the best comments we have ever received from Tom Jones with part of a comment being:
“The majority of the people who are still without jobs are those who were employed in sales, services, administrative, and manual labor. In general, jobs that are easily eliminated when an employer is cutting back, jobs that do not require any specialized skills or abilities, jobs that might be gone forever. And yet these people, when they are not enjoying their paid “vacations” courtesy of the Government, they tried to look for jobs in the same fields, or jobs that pay as well as what they used to make. Naturally, these jobs are not there anymore, and the competition is fierce, because there are so many people that can do those few jobs that are still available, and they probably can do them even better than these people who lost their jobs. In the end, it is like a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
I could not agree more with all of Mr. Jones comments. Please scroll to the bottom of this page to read more from him as he speaks nothing but the truth. For those continuing to wait for a Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension it may be time to open your eyes and realize just what Tom has said.
There has been much debate on my unemployment benefits extension column. Many of you are quite upset that I feel the way I do but we all have a right to our opinion. Feel free to continue to express your opinion but please no profanity. It is fine if you do not like me and you think karma will catch up to me but that is no reason to go into a tirade about how you think I should “do certain things.” At this point there will be no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension and you all know how I feel about that.
August 9th, 2010 has come and there is no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension on President Obama’s desk. This means that there will be no news or updates for 99ers over the next several weeks as the Senate will be on recess until September 10th, 2010. With this being the case there is only one way for these unemployed individuals to find access to money – finding employment. Sadly, many 99ers have given up but there are jobs and opportunities available with a little bit of sacrifice and hard work.
Senator Stabenow has introduced a Tier 5 Unemployment Benefits Extension bill for 99ers but it has a long way to go before it hits president Obama’s desk as of August 7th, 2010. Stabenow is from Michigan so she knows just how bad things can get when it comes to unemployment as the unemployment rate in her state is in excess of 10%. Once again, it will be enabling Americans even more if a Tier 5 unemployment extension is past.
ARTICLE
The tier 5 unemployment benefits extension has been a very popular topic over the last several months as many unemployed Americans are looking for news and updates when it comes to a possible extension of unemployment. Many 99ers and other Americans who have exhausted their unemployment insurance have continued to search long and hard for news updates in hope that a Tier 5 would pass the Senate and House and end up on Pres. Obama’s desk. Unfortunately, these individuals are not seeing this happen as Washington has stated many times that a Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension will not happen.
There is very little doubt that there are Americans who are working very hard to find a job yet they cannot do so. These Americans have every right to feel as if the government owes them for the service they have put in in the past. Unfortunately, there are also millions of Americans who continue to be an enabled and do as little as possible when it comes to searching for a job. For the last several weeks I have continuously posted updates on the Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension and each and every time I make the comment that there are jobs available.
A very common response to this comment is “there is no possible way that I can get a job right now as there are no jobs out there.” This has become a very common mindset of unemployed Americans throughout the country. Rather than giving a little bit of extra effort and searching long and hard to find a job they have given up and feel as if there are no jobs available. The government continues to urge this on by reporting numbers that there are 15 million unemployed Americans yet only 3 million jobs available. While these are the numbers that are being reported it is common knowledge that there are not just 3 million jobs available. Myself and many of my friends know that there are many more jobs for those who are willing and able to prove that they will be a very good employee.
The phrase birds of a feather flock together rings true when it comes to the Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension. In one of my posts I mentioned that it would be wise to go out with some successful friends and have lunch. One of the responses to that post was that unemployed Americans cannot afford to go out to lunch with a friend or someone successful in their life. As I clearly stated, you have befriended the wrong people if you are unemployed and your friend will not pick up the tab for your lunch. Once again, birds of a feather flock together and it seems as if all these unemployed Americans are conversing with other unemployed Americans and they are just making it worse for themselves.
While I would not consider myself the most successful person in the world I would definitely consider myself a success. Another common statement that has been made on almost all my articles is that I am just a woman who is benefiting from the success of my husband. If any of you talk to my husband personally you will know that I am much more successful than he is. He will be more than happy to tell you how much drive and ambition I have when it comes to not only making money but making myself the most successful person I can be.
In college, I went above and beyond to make certain that I got the experience I needed when going into the workforce. Instead of going out at night and getting drunk I worked a part-time job while also taking 18 hours a semester. While I do not expect all college students to do this, this was a sacrifice I made and it has helped me greatly to get the job I want. It also helped me to better understand that alcohol, drugs and other sinful activities will ultimately hurt an individual in the long run even if that is several years down the road.
This is something that many Americans do not think about when they are sitting on unemployment. Do you ever go back and think about the time when you could have stayed home and worked on a project that would have set you ahead of your coworkers but instead you decided to go out with your friends and get totally plastered? How about the time that you decided that it would not hurt you to take an extra hour on your lunch break even though your boss wanted you to be in the office at a certain time?
We have all had coworkers that do these types of activities and we all know that they are not the best employees. While there are many people on unemployment who were very good employees there are also many more that should have been flushed out of the system due to the fact that they took advantage of the benefits they had. I will be the first to say I have never taken a smoke break, I have never been to work one minute late, and I always make an extra effort to make certain that my boss is pleased with my work ethic.
Once again, I am not saying that all Americans should have to do this but if you have made the sacrifices in the past than it is highly likely that you would not be unemployed at the present time. Another common excuse that I continue to hear is companies are only looking for fresh young faces. To this I would ask you, what did you do to differentiate yourself and make yourself valuable to that company? Business is about making money and if you were making a company money then it is highly likely that you would continue to be employed by that specific corporation.
I am sure I will get many complaints about this statement stating that people have been laid off for no reason whatsoever other than downsizing. Once again, I will state that business is about making money and if you made money for your specific company than it would not be the case that you were laid off. This is hard for many people to fathom but it is the absolute truth when it comes to corporate America.
With no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension news or updates for 99ers it comes as no surprise to see many of these individuals complaining that they need another government handout. Rather than complaining it would be smart to get out there and do everything possible to find ANY job. I often encourage unemployed Americans to volunteer their time just to have an opportunity to prove that they would be a good employee. Many people have commented that it is just not worth it to volunteer time because they would actually have to pay money to do this. While this is very true it is also true that you will probably meet somebody during this volunteer time that will prove to be a very valuable resource in the future. Once again, birds of a feather flock together.
By volunteering, you will find that there are other people that likely will enter that business and will see your work ethic. If you volunteer for one week it is going to prove worthwhile even if you lose money in the short run. Unfortunately, many of those 99ers have been on unemployment for over two years and they no longer have the funds to volunteer with any companies. To these individuals I would say that I am extremely sorry that you waited so long to address a situation that should have been addressed week one. Once again, these are the sacrifices that must be made ahead of time rather than letting things spiral out of control.
I know I will receive many hateful comments for this column but this is something that must be addressed to all Americans who continue to wait for a Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension. Feel free to pass this along to any of your unemployed friends as I’m sure it will make the rounds throughout the many unemployment websites that are hoping for another government handout. Eventually all the unemployed are going to have to look in the mirror and realize that the only way they’re going to fix the problem is to do it themselves. All the Americans who are currently employed and are extremely successful realized this a very long time ago and they are taking advantage of the opportunities they have been given over the last several years.
In all reality, there is a possibility of a Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension but I can only hope that it does not happen because it will only enable unemployed Americans that much more. For 99ers who have sat on unemployment for over two years there is no reason that they need more insurance benefits as this is way too much time to find a job and make ends meet financially.
In the month of August 2010 there will be much debate about a Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension as the Senate will take recess beginning August 9. Per the usual, many unemployed Americans will complain and moan and groan that there is no reason that the Senate should be taking a vacation while they cannot find a job. Once again, I will state that birds of a feather flock together. Members of the Senate have done the necessary jobs to get in the position they are today and they deserve a vacation for the hard work they put in some time ago. You may disagree with many of the things that go on in Washington but one thing is for certain, they worked to get where they are.
It will be interesting to see what happens over the next several weeks as the Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension looks to be put on hold. There is very little doubt that this website will get a great deal of traffic as many of the unemployed will continue to hope that a government handout is on the way. Instead of sitting around and waiting for another government check get out there, volunteer your time, and find a job and help the overall economy.
My opinion on unemployment and the extension of unemployment insurance

This article may upset MANY of those on unemployment but eventually it is going to take someone cutting you off before you can get stronger. I often think of it as the kid who goes to college and continues to use mommy and daddy’s credit card. Until mommy and daddy cut him or her off they will never know what it is to be an adult.
Unfortunately, there are still many out there, unemployed as well, who have never been cut off from mommy and daddy and I would be willing to bet they are not the more successful individuals of the world.

Where do you get off Mrs. Young????? you sound demonic…shaming and blaming the unemployed…do your friends and family know how jaded and hostile you are toward mankind???? “well, what comes around goes around” sometime when you really need a hand you may be surprized that no one even cares…LOL..you reap what you plant, Mrs young
Aug 5th 2010
I have heard it all, psychics telling me that I have bad things coming to me, “what goes around, comes around,” that I need to open my eyes and realize what is going on, etc, etc, etc. You are exactly right Angie, I firmly believe what goes around, comes around and that is why I am be rewarded for the sacrifices and hard work I have put in while others who took advantage of situations and did not go above and beyond are punished.
I am sure many readers of this will claim that one day I will be unemployed and I will know what it feels like. Well, we will see about that, I am quite devoted to improving myself each and every day and I work A LOT! I would NEVER consider filing unemployment even if I were laid off, which will never happen.
Carry on….

Another possible bill for a Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension. We will see where this one goes but I have a suspicion that it will not get through the Senate before the recess on August 9th.

Five star article!
Aug 5th 2010
It’s an interesting point you made about congress worked hard to get where they are. The problem is they forget that where they are is to help the american people who put them there. If I could find a job where all I had to do was belittle people in a faceless manner writing articles the way you do, I would never leave my job either. Some day when your lying face down in a ditch, no one will be there to help you and I’ll be glad. And your one and only supporter who will never apply for UC benefits probably never have to as his parents will continue to support him and when they pass on, he will live off his inheritance. It’s losers like you and him, with your holier than thou attitude that put this country in the place we now find it. When writing articles becomes cheaper to outsource, see you on the UC lines.
Aug 5th 2010
I understand your position Julie Young, however all cases are different many people worked hard and did go the extra mile but when you go to work and the the door is locked at the same place you worked the day before it isnt that easy. And how is it that people that found themselves out of a job throgh no fault of there
own are lazy and whinny. Bot there are tons of people out there with out of wedlock children that never work yet get housing medical cars even bus passes forever, things that are unavailable to me. Also as far as being lazy and looking for a hand out, Then why when 99 weeks runs aout are people still unemployed? My apartment building is at less than 50% capacity.Noone chooses homelessness.
Aug 5th 2010
Thomas, Those on unemployment CONTINUE to say that the hard workers and dedicated receive benefits from their parents. Ironically, it is those who are ON unemployment who continue to ask and beg for help. How exactly did you find this article? Let me guess, you were hoping to a Tier 5 Unemployment Benefits Extension. Until you look in the mirror and accept that you have created your own problems things will never get better. You can have all the self pity you want and claim that it wasn’t your fault but, like many of you continue to say, “it all comes full circle.” It sure does and that is why I will continue to be very successful and never have to worry about apply for unemployment in my entire lifetime.
Aug 5th 2010
I finally receive a comment that accepts my position! Eventually we will make progress but for every 100 comments I receive telling me how I will be “lying in a ditch” there is only one that accepts my position. It will be interesting to see how many of the “lying in the ditch” comments are unemployment over the next six months. My guess is that number will be quite large.
I full understand that there are tough situations right now but 99 weeks to be on unemployment? Honestly, you cannot find ONE single job in TWO years? I find that quite hard to believe as I have friends that have had over 5 jobs in the last two years. It is all about putting yourself out there and taking the opportunities that are presented to you.

You stuck up slobs need to get your all-that head out of your butt pull your lip over your head and swallow. Put that feather in your pipe and smoke it.
Aug 5th 2010
Does it make you feel better to say that? Honestly, look in the mirror and then you will see the problem.

For those who continue to struggle it may be a smart decision to at least consider relocating. There are many states that have low unemployment rates and while it would not be easy to pick up and move, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. With no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension in the near future here is a list of the states and their unemployment rates:
1 NORTH DAKOTA 3.6
2 SOUTH DAKOTA 4.5
3 NEBRASKA 4.8
4 NEW HAMPSHIRE 5.9
5 VERMONT 6.0
6 HAWAII 6.3
7 KANSAS 6.5
8 IOWA 6.8
8 MINNESOTA 6.8
8 OKLAHOMA 6.8
8 WYOMING 6.8
12 LOUISIANA 7.0
12 VIRGINIA 7.0
14 MARYLAND 7.1
15 UTAH 7.2
16 MONTANA 7.3
17 ARKANSAS 7.5
18 ALASKA 7.9
18 WISCONSIN 7.9
20 COLORADO 8.0
20 MAINE 8.0
22 NEW MEXICO 8.2
22 NEW YORK 8.2
22 TEXAS 8.2
25 DELAWARE 8.5
25 WEST VIRGINIA 8.5
27 CONNECTICUT 8.8
27 IDAHO 8.8
29 WASHINGTON 8.9
30 MASSACHUSETTS 9.0
31 MISSOURI 9.1
32 PENNSYLVANIA 9.2
33 ARIZONA 9.6
33 NEW JERSEY 9.6
35 DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 10.0
35 GEORGIA 10.0
35 KENTUCKY 10.0
35 NORTH CAROLINA 10.0
39 INDIANA 10.1
39 TENNESSEE 10.1
41 ALABAMA 10.3
42 ILLINOIS 10.4
43 OHIO 10.5
43 OREGON 10.5
45 SOUTH CAROLINA 10.7
46 MISSISSIPPI 11.0
47 FLORIDA 11.4
48 RHODE ISLAND 12.0

While living in Nebraska or North Dakota might not sound like your cup of tea, at least it offers more opportunities and could lead to a much happen life in which you do not have to sit around and hope for another government handout.

Here is a HUGE problem that many unemployed Americans have. Read more of this article at the following link: http://newgradlife.blogspot.com/2010/04/3-job-search-mistakes-everybody-makes.html
“I’ve been doing a lot of research for Job Search Boot Camp and have found career expert, after career expert claiming that 80% of open positions are not posted online. They also claim that the vast majority of job seekers rely solely on the Internet to find a new job.
To turn this idea into simple math, this means that roughly 80% of the people are going for 20% of the jobs. Not only are those online jobs way more competitive, they are most likely more generic than those you’d find offline.
So what does this mean for you? It means that if you’re smart, you’d be playing in the offline field where you’d be one of the 20% looking at 80% of the jobs.”
Aug 5th 2010
Sorry Matt, no profanity….make sure you post this
Aug 5th 2010
Ms. Young, you are out of touch and I’m appalled at your article. Your article may have impact during solid economic times, but does not apply to many of those those laid off in 2008 and later. There may be jobs, but I can assure you those many of those jobs are technical and require specific training and skills – most of which are being outsourced to India and China where laborers toil 20 hours a day for below minimum wages. (do your homework)
I’m 62 years old and have worked all my life until I was 60 WITH NO GAPS between jobs. I have a flawless job history and was laid off in 2008. Since, then I’ve been on about 40 interviews — I live in CA with a realistic 17% unemployment rate and 10 to 1 applicants for job openings. I just received an email from Stanford telling me they had received over 200 applications for an admin job that I applied to.
Your article is propaganda at it’s best!
Aug 5th 2010
Ms. Young, I am so sorry that you feel that way towards UNEMPLOYED FOLKS LIKE ME. You see Ms. Young, I worked for 17 years, monitoring inmates, and making sure that YOU are safe while YOU are asleep. Federal folks decided that they needed a few correctional facilities closed, and one of the ones that I worked at CLOSED. I have 3 degrees, and over the 52 year mark, Its hard, very hard to get a job at my age and skills. YOU would think that an employer would jump up and pick me up faster than the average Joe, but no. I am struggling like everybody else, and if you would like to send me a certified check to my P.O. Box to ship my ass to another state, I will cash it and smile and hit the road, But if you cannot, then my suggestion to you is to keep your HAPPY ASS MOUTH SHUT.
Aug 5th 2010
I can understand that someone who has worked hard for what she has gotten and is not at all lazy would think that all those who aren’t working are lazy and are just not doing enough to get a job. This is my experience. I have put out 1020 resumes in the past year. I have put in applications everywhere in the area I live in. I have moved with the help of friends to have a place to stay 3 times. I have applied in person in 5 different states for a job. I have been turned down for a year even doing all of this. There are many of us on unemployment that are doing all that we can to get work. What I have found is that most of the people hearing don’t take me seriously because there are so many people that are applying. I have changed my resume to fit the job, I have lots of qualifications that would be great for most of the jobs I have applied for. I have even applied for jobs I don’t qualify for. I have spent hours and hours walking driving and typing. But still no job. Now you tell me that I am not doing what I can to get a job. You try to live on unemployment and see how fast you get out there and try to get work. No one can live off unemployment. We are losing everything, everything! I am saying that twice because that is what is happening to us. We can bearly eat. We can’t pay rent and utility bills on unemployment. Every month it gets harder and harder to live. If I didn’t have friend and family to help me I would be out on the streets. I can’t get food stamps if I make more than $1,000 a month. How can you pay rent $750.00 and utilities $200.00 and food and gas for my car and a car payment. There is no way and you think we are just living off the government. You must be so far away from reality that you can’t realize what is really happening. Instead of thinking about yourslef and how hard you work and that you have so much and that you did it because you are such a hard worker. Maybe you could go and talk to some people and see what is really happening to them because of the Government bailing out corporate and Banks. Come on where is your sisterly love? Go do some interviews see how we are all living.
Sincerely,
Jacklen
PS. I go out and walk to get some exerciser and to stay calm. When I do I take a bag and pick up what others are throwing on the ground to keep my neighborhood clean. I sweep and pickup around my apartment because my landlord wont to it. I pick up my dogs poop so others don’t have to see it or step in it. I won’t live in filth even though I am unemployed. Now Debbie put that in your pipe! Do you think I am doing enough for your judgment? Does that make you fell better about me one of your neighbors who is unemployed.

You are pathetic.
Aug 5th 2010
Spoken by a person who HAS a job!!!
Keep writing like that and watch what happens to your job!
FIRED for NOT reporting the truth!
How dare you act like jobs are plentiful!
I’m 55 woman and have worked since I was 16 taking any job from fast food places, office work and driving a forklift in a freezer!
Do some real research and follow the true story of filing out application after application with no response! Try it yourself and see what happens! Go to the front lines with us because my dear this is a battle! A battle to keep a roof over our heads, utilities conected and food on the table!
SHAME ON YOU AND THE GREEDY PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON!!!
Aug 5th 2010
I know, I know, I am pathetic and I am the one who is going to get fired. Well, first of all, I PROMISE you that I will not be fired; that will not happen. The only way I will lose this position is to step down. Second of all, you are right, I am the one who is pathetic. I decided to QUIT my previous job just when the recession was beginning knowing that there was a better avenue of growth for me. I am the one who is pathetic because when I face adversity I don’t cower up into a ball and beg for a handout. You have it exactly right, I am the one who is pathetic. Even though I am pathetic I continue to remain employed and make certain that I go above and beyond to make certain that I am the only one who can do my job!

Aug 5th 2010
Well Julie you have made so many assumptions about the folks that are 99′ers. One topic that you mentioned many times was about wasted time drinking in college and after work. WOW for one thing my husband was not in college wasting his time drinking, but serving 4 years in the Navy during the Viet Nam war. After the service he worked a full time job at night and went to school full time during the day, while married with 2 children. At 62 years old, they closed his office and his professional job went over seas. I have no idea how old you are or if you’ve talked to the older Americans out looking for a job, but no matter that you are cold sober, have a group of successful friends and associates, folks do not want to hire applicants even in their 50′s never mind 60′s. He’s been working as hard as he worked at his profession to get a job for 2 years, it’s not getting easier to get an interviews, but harder. Oh by the way have you heard about the companies that refuse to hire the unemployed. How about the fact that they do financial checks, and what person that has been without a job for 2+ years has not had damage done to their credit scores. I’m not talking about using credit cards for vacations, jewelry etc. But for food, oil, keep the 15 year old cars running. WOW would love to live in your perfect world and be so perfect. Thought we were doing so well. Oh by the way, welfare is a hand out. Unemployment insurance is something put away by employers for our benefit should you become unemployed. Someone at 62 years of age should have a decent amount put aside in this fund for his insurance purposes. Where the heck is all that $$ and the $$ still being put away by perfect people like you who are so successful? He’s now 64, have any other bright ideas, because he wants to work just like he has since he was a youngster unloading train cars for his grandmother’s business.
Aug 5th 2010
Wow, you finally said something truthful, but it sounds like You didn’t think at all.
Aug 5th 2010
Companies that will not hire the unemployed are looking out for the profits of their company. I will be perfectly honest, if I had a company and an unemployed individual interviewed with me, it would be have to be an EXTREMELY impressive interview for me to consider hiring that individual. This may be right or wrong, but as an executive I would be thinking to myself, “there is a reason that this person has been on unemployment for over two years.” If he or she has been unemployed there has to be a reason, right? Just my two cents.
Aug 5th 2010
I have never been unemployed in my life before this 2nd Depression. We did not cause this The Greedy Rich Americans did. They get to keep the money they steel and government help for bonuses. We have to pay for it and not get any help. I guess I made the mistake of taking the honest path and look where it got me and lots of other Americans. Maybe I can move to China and get a job.
As soon as they closed my department ( and outsourced my job to China ) I did everything I could to get a job. I went back to school to get more skills and a second degree. I tried to start my own Business ( in this crap economy ) and everything else I could try. I have a glowing resume and had written recommendation from my last employer. I have put out hundreds of resumes and only one good prospect. Even when I call them several times.
We can help everyone else in the world with Billions of dollars but our own people. There are people starving in your back yard.
Is that right? We should have got America straight a long time ago and screw the rest of the world.
You should thank (who ever) you still have a job and pray they don’t outsource your job to China or anywhere else.
You make me sick.
Aug 5th 2010
Ms. Young:
Never say never that you will never be unemployed or never collect unemployment. Are you relying on your husband to support you? Maybe tomorrow you will be unemployed. You never know what the higher power above has in store for you. Unless you think you are god.

Once again the “support from your husband” comments. I guess it is just UNTHINKABLE that a woman can be extremely successful and think for herself. I have done amazing things in my career and I will continue to adjust and adapt. No, I do not think I am God, but I am 100% in my abilities to generate money for the company in which I work for. Unfortunately, everyone on unemployment cannot say the same or they would not be asking for a Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension.

Maybe you will stroke out and then what? You will be collecting disability.

I must say, this is quite amazing. The only thing she responds to is the negative, while ignoring the logic given from a few on here. She can’t respond to logic so she attacks and preys on the weak. “WEAK ANGLE” I’m not going to give a sob story, but put it like this, She will be the same one running for dear life when people resort to crime because they truely can’t find work. Cowards in person but have a backbone in front of a computer. Who is so out of touch, that they truely believe people will live on the streets rather than work!!! Let’s say some people didn’t take their jobs as serious as they should. It’s called a mistake, not pathetic!! The same people will work harder because they can no longer take work for granted. You have this belief that even those people deserve to be homeless!!!! O.K time for a quick summary, You have never been able to balance fun and work and it has built up a resentment towards anyone that can. I bet your personal life suffers, your kids and husband probably hate you and you have to vent about it right?? Take it out on us but just know we are the resilient ones hun…. Loosen up a bit would ya!!!!

The link above this comment is my newest article. I am sure many of you will want to read it as I lay out some methods to get a job in August 2010. With no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension its time to adjust and find employment.

Are you truly that stupid and ignorant and heartless? Listen lady….I am not the most intelligent man in the world and I am not the wisest but I can tell you this. I have worked my entire life and have never drawn a foodstamp or any other type of Gov aid. I have been unemployed for 2 yrs now.I have gone on over a 100 interviews. I was hired for 3 and was laid off of each one within 6 weeks. The rest of the interviews no one called back. YES some people take advantage of the system and milk the checks for all they can but if you truly think hard working adults with families want to sit home being onry and lazy in front of their wife and children then you are insane. My wife and I worked and struggled for 5 yrs to get our credit report back in good standing and we bought a house in a decent area to raise our children. Thanks to the economy and losing our jobs through no fault of out own our credit report is once again being ruined and our house payments are 2 months behind. But I guess we are just lazy and allowing this to happen because we do not want to work? you are worthless to come here and spout of that type of nonsense when their are families and children suffering right now and can not find work. I seldom if ever wish ill on other people but I hope you get what is coming to you. you low life. karma is a wonderful thing

HAHAH listen everyone. look over this website. this site is a joke and looks to be some site some idiot built in his or her basement. the person making all these comments trying to get people pis**ed off is a complete moron. probably works at wal-mart or k-mart.I was angry at first after reading her comments but now I am ,laughing at her. I am a network engineer and I am sure I was making more than 3 times a yr what this idiot makes. So guess what dear you keep on making your ridicules post and I will keep on laughing at you and this bs site. take a look at all the adds on this sites main page lol not only the main page but every page hahaha what a joke. I was drawing over $850.00 every two weeks on my unemployment. I guarantee that is way more than you make. haha you call your self an executive lol that’s funny. you probably flip burgers or bag groceries
Aug 6th 2010
The KEY word in your comment is “way.” I am assuming you are no longer drawing that anymore? If that is the case then flipping burgers sounds very good when compared to nothing.

It’s great that there are more jobs in some states but how is someone who is unemployed, with no savings left, and owe more than their home is worth supposed to pay for a truck and gas to move all their stuff, and find a place to live in one of those states? Not to mention how are they supposed to even get there to apply for a job? Your answers are simplistic and based on your own suppositions, not real data. You are in insult to the 99ers.
Aug 6th 2010
If you’re so great and your job is so great…what is it that you do? You never mentioned that. Are you afraid that one of the 99ers might go and apply for your job? It’s great for you to sit in your secure insulated little world with a working husband and condemn people you know nothing about. What gives you the right to judge? What are you 25? Really? Wait until the shoe is on the other foot and you or your husband lose your job. You say that can’t happen? Well, a lot of us thought the same thing 2 years ago. People who brag like you do invoke Karma. You know what that is?
Aug 6th 2010
I absolutely know what Karma is and I know that it all comes full circle. That is the exact reason I am where I am today. No one is perfect in this world but I analyze every situation before I make a mistake. As I stated earlier, I have never drank a single ounce of alcohol, I have never smoked a cigarette, I have never done ANY drugs and I continue to be a very trusting person when it comes to relationship. I dare say that VERY few people in this world can say the same for themselves. So yes, I do believe in Karma and it helps me to be the successful woman I am today.
Aug 6th 2010
Also, I am NOT afraid any 99er would get my job because it takes hard word, dedication and sacrifice. Anyone who is unemployed right now could NEVER do my job.
Aug 6th 2010
Wow this lady really has a “God” complex.
This site is a joke, because (out of all of the other sites I have read) I never seen the person who wrote the article give responses back. She must have nothing better to do.

Ms Young you sound very smug. I guess people are killing themselves, foreclosing their homes, being evicted from apartments and surrendering their children to foster care because hey just don’t want to work. I am sure your circumstance have made you lucky and probably favored by society. Perhaps you were born into money, perhaps you are young, perhaps you were able to afford more than others. Whatever the reason you are very smug and cocky. Try reading some letters from the 99ers and feel the real pain that they are going through.
I feel that you advice is liken to me telling someone with one leg to run when I was born with two good legs. Sure there are some people more fortunate than others, I have COMPASSION for those. We never know what the future will bring regardless of what our current status is. This selfish and cold attitude is unwarranted when it is the government that created this crisis. Tax cuts for the rich and the diminishing of the middle class. This is worst since the Great Depression. Most of us were not alive to see that, however we are alive now. Compassion and helping your fellow man when he’s down is what separates us from snakes.
Aug 7th 2010
The Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension does not look to be happening anytime soon. The Senate will take recess starting Monday and will not return until September 10th. The jobs data came out yesterday and unemployment rate remains at 9.5% which means it is REALLY not as bad as some of you make it out to be. With the unemployment rate stable there are opportunities available if you are will to go above and beyond and find those jobs.
Aug 7th 2010
Please no comments about how you plan to rob other Americans. This is not only inappropriate but also unacceptable as others did not bring your problems. By accepting that only you can solve your issues you will make your life much better.
Aug 7th 2010
Hey Ms. Young,
“This will not be posted”
Gotta go…

Miss you are very mistaken and out of touch with the reality. I have successful friends and friends unemployed. Many have found themselves out of work. Out of our group of 20 or so couples only two have both adults working, the other is unemployed. This is a long term problem that has hurt many people. As with anything there are always a few bad apples, but you can’t punish everyone for them, and those are the people that will be in the usually 4.5% regular unemployment rate in the norms. I have a degree, several years of experience in different fields all of which I have tried and been told to be overqualified. I can still barely get interest let alone an interview. I have tweaked resumes a hundred times and read hundreds of articles. I search and find nothing. I worked two jobs all through college which I am paying for on my own. The situation has gone on so long I had no choice but to do Bankruptcy which makes it even harder to get a job. I have a baby girl 16MO, and let me tell you I want her to see her daddy out working, but more importantly I want to have her see food on the table and a roof over her head. I want to be out, but can’t. In this country if you discriminate against the people that genuinely need the help, then you are being unconstitutional. We paid in and we need help. Not to mention that many of us are in a loophole. With one earner at low salary we don’t qualify for any other type of aide. over the poverty, but way under the median family income for my state even with unemployment. Under equal protection some bad people may get through but the good do not deserve to be hurt. We have never stopped unemployment with the rate above 7% and we have been higher than 9% for 2 years. Think of all the people we pay with the money to. You are hurting the landlords, and the employees of the utility companies and local grocery stores, it goes on and on down the chain. They are not creating jobs, even gov jobs are hard, and private wont create cause they can afford to wait, and there is to much uncertainty in taxes and structures for people to jump in blind. The Dems control Washington FOR NOW, and they wont do a 99 because they love the rhetoric and if they give the extension then the unemployment rate will go up to more accurately reflect the real unemployment number which they do not want ahead of the election. So miss check your facts, talk to some people that are truly hurting and gain some perspective and compassion. Support this and become a true American

Just like I stated on another website………………
You morons should have saved your money and you would not be in this position. How many of YOU 99ers shopped at thrift stores, dented can stores, day old bread stores, drove a 25 year old car, and never ran the A/C before this recession problem????? Until 2 years ago, I grossed over 150K a year with the wife’s income. My family of 5 lived on just under 30K a year in Upland, Ca. I OWN my home (worth over 600K) and my 25 year old car. My children (3) are all 4.0 students and have earned their way into Ivy league colleges on scholarships. I have managed to save over 1.8 million dollars and because I am a frugal investor, I am now worth over 4.3 million. YES, I did loose close to 1Mil, BUT, I still have over 4 million dollars. 95% of my friends lived well beyond their means and are now broke. IT IS ALL THEIR FAULT!!! One must learn to SAVE 30% of their income at minimum. If all of the country had done so and not bought new cars, boats, shopped at whole foods market, purchased clothing at Sax, take vacations, you would be in the same position as me. And BTW, I am DEBT FREE!!!! I am now purchasing homes in Riverside County, Ca for 25% of what they were 2-3 years ago. I will then rent them for at least 1300 per month (this is on the low side). SO, after I purchase 7 of these homes for appx 140K each, I will collect 91K per year in rent. After investing just over 1Million dollars, this will give me a return of over 9% for doing nothing but investing my hard earned money!!! If many of you had lived like I have, you could be doing the same thing. ALSO, after my 26 weeks of UI, I turned down any more payments as I paid into the system for only that 26 weeks. I don’t take what I have not earned.
Something you 99ers are not thinking of, the MAIN reason tier 5 will NEVER happen is according to my math, there are appx 1.3 million people who qualify for the 99ers situation. IF a tier 5 bill is passed, the unemployment rate will go up no less than .7%. This TODAY would have unemployment at over 10% and the election of our Dems would NEVER happen. This is probably a great thing so I hope you get your extension. Then the GOP will take over and get the economy going again with tax cuts for people like me, so I will invest my hard saved money to help business grow and I will benefit with more money in my pocket!!!
Please do not misunderstand me. I am VERY good at what I do and I have not been able to find employment for over 2 years. I have had 5 interviews out of state which the prospective employer paid for and I am still unemployed. My gripe is that people need to be more frugal with their income and quit trying to purchase things you can’t afford. For example, if you go on daily walks, bring a bag so you can pick up any cans or bottles you might see. Look for lost change and other valuable items on the sidewalk and street. I will bet I have picked up over 1K in the last 10 years on my walks. It also makes you neighborhood nicer to live in.
Just something to think about…………

Ms. Young,
You are right on a number of points. Reading the posts of the so-called “99ers” gave me the impression that they have become a group of desperate people who are dependent on the Government as the sole source for their subsistence. What is even more scary is that they see this a a permanent set up, where the Government will continue to give people like them enough money to live on without ever working in a job again. These people no longer have any expectation of finding a job, and their writings clearly states that. Their one and only demand is permanent UI payments from the Government for as long as they live. This is not going to happen, and we see these people exhibiting all the symptoms similar to those who are hooked on drugs… narrow-mindedness, confusion of facts vs. reality, readiness to commit crimes or hurting people so they can get their “fix.” The current Administration has created this new type of “druggies” who are deeply hooked on Government handouts and see no way out. Sadly, we will probably see deaths and violence before this group of people can get over their addiction to UI.

Even in normal economic conditions, there are always more job-seekers than there are jobs. Finding a job is always tough. There have been tens of millions of Americans who have lost their jobs and were forced into poverty or homelessness over the past four, five decades. This so called “recession” is no different than countless others that this country has seen before. The difference is that this time the Democratic government gave people unprecedented unemployment extensions, such that a huge number of people continued to live relatively well for long periods of time even without holding a job. These people now faced the end of their free ride, and it is painful, because they have become accustomed to this way of life for more than 2 years. Their plight is no different than what countless millions have faced before. Only that their pains have been delayed for a long time, and now it hurts to find out that the easy life is no longer there to be had. This is still the America of old, just not the imaginary America that these people have been led to believe exist. No country can afford to pay its citizens to not work forever. In the real world, money does not grow on trees, and there are no pennies from heaven so these people can be unemployed forever.
Aug 15th 2010
Tom, you have said it best; these 99ers feel as if they are owed something and it will continue to be that way as long as they get their shot in the arm (unemployment extensions).
Aug 15th 2010
The majority of the people who are still without jobs are those who were employed in sales, services, administrative, and manual labor. In the end, it is like a self-fulfilling prophecy. These 99ers will never be able to find a job. What will happen to them? The same as happened to countless millions who lost their jobs before… moving to a lower social class, unless they can improvise and adjust themselves better for the new economy….

My husband is 58 years old and was employed in law enforcement. Every City and County surrounding us has layed off because there is no money to pay for officers. This is a man who has taken pride in providing a service to his commuity and helping others. I ask you, when Walmart is no longer hiring and the local grocery store would rather hire teenagers how are the middle aged unemployed population supposed to keep a roof over their heads? What has happened is shameful! The government is turning their backs on people right here in the USA that are in desperate need of help. Take notice officials and people of opinion, there are only so many openings for a 60 year old Door Greater.

when i hear or see people who judge others or people who dont listen or try and understand another persons veiwpoint it makes me wonder about their inteligents and if they are capible of coming to any rashanal decisions if one lives in a town with limited jobs
and there are not enough to go around im sure it doent mean that person is a failure, and if mommy and dady died than there not really counting on them now are they… so i will not judge you
but try and understand your veiwpoint…you almost sound like my sister she cant stand the fact that i was getting unemployment she thought it was a drain on the system….yet she could not tell me what country or how much we have given them or for what..or that their going to be crashing a billion dollar craft into the sun to measure who hot it is….is now really the best time for that
maybe we could barrow some and put it off a few years and if they want i could tell them …..the sun is really really hot…there i saved them a billion
