Tier 5 Unemployment Benefits Extension for 99ers Related to Disability Benefits Increasing

August 25, 2010
By

For quite some time I have voiced my opinion against a Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension for 99ers as the enabling of America eventually has to stop.  There are jobs out there for those that are willing to make sacrifices and are willing to work.  With that in mind a friend of mine point out a VERY interesting chart.

Although many will complain that it is just an aging population claiming disability I find it “not so ironic” that the amount of searches for “disability benefits” started to increase just as many of these individuals starting losing their jobs.  What is very interesting is that the explosion really starts when many of the 99ers started to exhaust their unemployment benefits.  While I know there are MANY out there, in fact, probably most, that are looking for a job and want to work, there are also many who continue to look for a government handout and hope that there is a way to survive without having to actually get a job.

Washington has stated that there will be no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension and this is exactly what needs to happen as America needs to get back to work.  For too long, 99 weeks!, Americans have had the ability to sit around and soak up government funds.  Once again, there are many who continue to look for jobs but unfortunately it is human nature to continue to remain passive when someone is enabling you.  Now that the government has pulled the plug it will be very interesting to watch unemployment numbers continue to drop over the next few years as Americans are forced to get a job to support oneself.

I am sure many of you will state the arguments against the rise in disability benefits versus the unemployment benefits extension being cut off but I think there is no irony in the fact that without an unemployment check many are looking for other ways to come up with money without having to work.

As of September 1st, there is still no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension for 99ers and the Senate seems set on it staying this way.  Unless something very crazy happens in the next month it looks as if the government has decided to cut off the unemployment checks to these Americans who have been without a job for over two years.  There are jobs out there if you really want them but it is going to take hard work and dedication and maybe even some volunteering but a job is available if you are willing to work hard enough.  One good thing for those unemployed, they will get to take advantage of the college football TV schedule that starts tomorrow.

Even though a large number of Americans remained unemployed it is quite surprising how much money continues to be spent on holidays.  Each and every holidays billions of dollars are spent at retailers and Halloween is likely to be no different.  The number of people looking for 2010 Halloween costume ideas will likely explode over the next few weeks but hopefully these individuals will save as much money as possible because the economy is not getting any better in the eyes of the unemployed.

Julie —You are a moron ! First of all Tier 5 is not dead and have you thought that perhaps the tragedy that long term unemployment takes is in itself a disability…These people lost their jobs through no fault of their own . Consequently they have in many cases lost their homes and dignity …and in some cases their lives …Julie …You try going through what many of these people have and see how healthy you come out …hope you end up at the bottom of a deep lake…

    ****Attention 99ers*****

Julie says “Washington has stated that there will be no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension and this is exactly what needs to happen as America needs to get back to work” but is wrong. There is a bill introduced by Michigan’s Senator Stabenow (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/05/tier-5-sen-stabenow-intro_n_671550.html).

Perhaps she is one of many nobody’s paid by the powers that pit the middle class against each other and maybe she is convinced the Department of Labor’s statistics state there is one job for every 5 seekers is wrong. Laugh at her ignorance and know she has no facts to back up her opinion.

Want to do something productive? Continue certifying your unemployed status as long as you are actively seeking work, available for work and have not declined an offer – even after benefits expire. Your state won’t encourage it and might even ask you to stop. DON’T STOP. If you do, you are allowing the perception of people like Julie to be supported by falling into the ranks of “the people who just gave up looking for work”. The point of politicians discouraging unemployed people from certifying their job search is to reduce the official U3 unemployment rate used by Wall Street and Washington – so the elite can benefit at your expense.

Call your politicians and demand a Tier V AND a reversal of any anti-American worker law encouraging outsourcing to slave and near slave labor in impoverished countries with no middle class. Encourage other 99ers continue certifying unemployment.

Can not believe how cruel and insensitive people can be. I have always heard the saying treat others the way you would like to be treated. Where has the compassion for human life gone? People that draw unemployment have a secret shame. It makes you feel a little bit lower in class compared to someone out there working. You feel like people look down on you and they think that you are lazy. I am a mom of a 2 yr old and a full time student. I am trying to better myself for my family. Is it a crime that I have been unemployed for 99 weeks and I am going to school? Believe me I would love to have a job to provide a better life for my child but right now I have to work on my education and if I need help along the way its nothing to you. Its not coming out of your pocket, I worked in a nursing home 16 hrs a day 7 days a week. I paid my dues, and when I was 5 mths pregnant they fired me because I was unable to work the long hrs that I had before due to heatlh risks on me and my child. So tell me how that was my fault? Should me and my child end up homeless on the street? I hope you all dont have nothing to say about homeless people either, that would just make you mean people. Have a heart, put your self in someone elses shoes and think for just a min, hey that could be me, I could be the one outta of a job. With bills to pay and mouths to feed.

Julie, you ignorant woman. I hope you are tossed out like trash after 38 years. Let’s see how you respond to that. There are no jobs period. Never mind good jobs. The rich have pillaged this country. They don’t care if children are homeless and hungry.

Julie, You are a complete MORON…………why is it that idiots like you seem to think the “UNEMPLOYED” are the ones looking for a free handout………..WE HAD JOBS BUT LOST THEM DUE TO THE CORRUPT POLITICIANS AND COMPANIES WE WORKED FOR…………..why the “F” don’t you bastards say that about WELFARE recipients who are in fact just sitting for a handout…………I’m so sick and tired of A**holes like you who have no backbone to say anything about that, but seem to love to pick on individuals who lost their jobs……….KEY WORD IS “LOST” not “QUIT”…………You are just a STUPID B**CH with no clue…………How about those WELFARE recipients in the grocery lines with Lobster tails and steaks while I have lunch meat and loaf of bread just to survive and ensure my children don’t go hungry………….I am a God fearing individual and respect everybody but when I read posts such as yours I can only hope you, all the other GOP idiots and all your families with that mindset starve or die a tragic death……………………as it seems you feel the same way about us…………..

Maybe is some states, the employment problem isn’t such a big problem, but there are some states where there simply NO JOBS! My state is the highest in the country, near 15%. McDonalds was hiring for 600 positions to open new stores and adding hours to other. For 600 hundred jobs, more than 5,000 people applied! People are desperate to work, even at a crappy minimum wage job.. but the jobs just don’t exist here anymore. These silly repukes claiming people just want hand out?? What a group of arrogant, low class douche bags! People want to work! We have the highest unemployment, highest foreclosure, highest bankruptcies. We have families with small babies and children living on the streets and I’m sure it’s because they are just lazy looking for a handout! How ignorant some people are. Sometimes it’s embarrassing to admit, you’re an American.. A once great nation allows children to live on the streets. What a disgrace!

It just boggles my mind that 99ers are supposed to give up everything they have worked so hard for. Some people think we should take a low paying job. Well if that is the case then pack all your belongings because you do not deserve the house or cars or food. Most of us lived within our means. Our money was spent on the AMERICAN DREAM. Although i never owned my own home i would still like to be able to afford my own apt. I lost my job a while ago and with it everything i own. For me if i could find a low paying job i would take it. THEY ARNT THIER! How dare you expect people to just give up everything they own just to satisfy a few ignorant people. Well, you may think it is ok to support the government with our taxes which is WELFARE and to make sure they live much better than us than keep working and make sure you send your government on that lovely vacation. Me personally, Im tired of working my ass of while the government shits on me. So work more hours so thier welfare checks dont stop. GOD FORBID THEY LOOSE THIER HOUSES, CARS AND WHATEVER ELSE WE GIVE THEM FOR FREE.

Julie & Family, we are hard working decent human beings and have been for many many years. We are NOT repeat users of these benefits. I hope you lose your job and begin earning a fraction of what you were making, perhaps you’d sing to a beat of a different drum.

  12. Carlch on August 29, 2010 at 11:53 pm

Julie, you are out of touch. Those individuals that have exhausted 99 weeks and have not been fortunate to find “sustainable” work will see additional weeks by the end of the year. If our economy continues to falter as it is, we will see another Tier 6. I have worked for 45 years with no gaps except a three month maternity leave. There are no jobs and older workers are having a particularly hard time.

    Julie,

You need to get a clue! This depression that we’re suffering through now, was created by Wall Street, and the corrupt corporate banks. Not to mention being aided and abetted, by eight years of political facism, courtesy of George Bush.

That being said, the 99ers are NOT responsible for their plight. Most of them are over 40, so they suffer from age discrimination.
Which is also not their fault. If the government can spend billions to fight two useless wars, then they can afford to extend
unemployment benefits, for the 99ers. Every American has a right to government aid, to help them survive until they can get jobs!

    Hello All:

A moron to say the least—my elected officials have let me down.

You will lose this November—you know who you are and guess what! Great for those who want to make changes to our public officials.

    Julie,

You are very ignorant. I am embarrassed for you that you cannot look around and see the devastation of this economical debacle. There aren’t any jobs. The umemployment is not getting any better. They don’t want to put the 99ers back on the system because it would show just how bad umemployment really is. Every week people “fall off” unemployment and it makes the unemployment situation look just a little bit better. So they are in no hurry to add 1.5 million people back into the system. It would jump unemployment back into the double digits easily. Grow up, Julie. Get a brain and a heart.

Julie, you are a mean spirited person… have you ever been evicted while your 2 kids looked on in horror? how dare you assume that because there are no decent full time jobs in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that I do not want to work… I pray that you will someday be in my shoes, oh wait, that will never happen because you probably make enough to fully fund your pension plans and 401k. screw you and the horse you rode in on because if you have never been in my shoes you should shut your mouth.
